About This Certificate Program

Christian Studies Certificate Program offers a range of learning opportunities to beginning students of the Bible, mission, and theology. This program is composed of 11 courses in total. All courses come from the fields of biblical studies, theology/history, and ministry. Education at Olivet Seminary is rooted in a strong Biblical foundation. This certificate must be certified through an examination at a local seminary.

In other words, once you complete 11 designated courses, you will be able to receive the Olivet Seminary Certificate in Christian Studies. The certificate program offers a range of structured and effective learning opportunities to equip beginners of faith who just starting to learn about the Bible, missionaries who want greater impact in their mission field, and those seeking to have a deeper understanding of God and theology.

Dr. William L. Wagner (D. Miss., Fuller Theological Seminary)

Dr. William L. Wagner is a renowned theologian, missionary, and pastor. He earned his B.S. from University of the New Mexico and M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He went on to receive D.Miss. from Fuller Theological Seminary and Th.D. from University of South Africa. He is the author of numerous books including How Islam Plans to Change the World.

Dr. Donald Tinder (Ph.D., Yale University)

Dr. Donald Tinder is a world-leading historical theologian. He earned his B.A. from Yale University and M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary. He went on to receive a Ph.D. from Yale University. He has taught students in Europe and North America.

Dr. Paul de Vries (Ph.D. The University of Virginia)

Dr. Paul de Vries has tremendous academic background as a dean or associate dean of three Christian Schools (Wheaton College, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Seminary of the East). He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. at the University of Virginia, specializing in applied ethics, critical thinking, and hermeneutics. He is the lead author of three books: The Taming of the Shrewd; Ethics Applied; and Business Ethics Applied.

Dr. Tom J. Cowley (D.Min., United Theological Seminary)

Dr. Tom J. Cowley is an outstanding Christian practitioner. He earned an MBA from Northwestern University. He went on to receive a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books including Remember the Heart of the Bible.

Dr. Alfred Merril Smoak, Jr. (DWS)

Dr. Alfred Merril Smoak is a professor having served on Music and Worship ministry for around forty years. He earned a B.A. from California Baptist University and M.C.M. from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He went on to receive a D.W.S. from The Institute for Worship Studies.

Rev. David Y. Chang

Rev. David Y. Chang is a cross-cultural pastor based in Sydney, Australia. He earned his Master of Divinity and completed the D.Min program from Olivet University. Having received a Bachelor of Engineering degree as his undergraduate studies from University of Melbourne, his passion for over 10 years has been to explain the Bible in an unadulterated yet systematic and logical way.
